It is a truth universally acknowledged that mothers are incredible.
Raising children takes a mother's body, mind (and bank account) to the limit and can leave you feeling like a shadow of yourself.
So how can you get back to being the confident, independent woman you once were? Let's take inspiration from flamingos. Yes, flamingos.
Flamingos actually lose their pink color while raising their young because it takes so much energy. But once their chicks grow up and become more independent, you know what? They get their pink color back. And you can, too.
1. The Selfish Flamingo – putting yourself first (sometimes)
I know mothers feel guilty.
Remember: You can't pour anything from an empty cup. You'll be a better mom when you're not fueled solely by caffeine and mom guilt. Hire a babysitter and book a massage. Take a private bath! Whatever helps you relax and recharge.
2. The sociable flamingo – return to your friends
Flamingos live in flocks because they understand the power of community. If you've been busy with diapers and Bluey for weeks, it's time to call a friend.
New moms often get caught in a baby bubble, but a coffee (or a glass of wine, we don't judge) with friends can do wonders to help you feel like yourself again.
So, gather your friends, hand the baby over to someone else, and remember that you are more than just a milk machine.
We asked the mothers among us at EDURINO to share their experiences of “reclaiming their pink” after the birth of their children:
" Two things that helped me reclaim my pink after having children were seeing my boys as a colorful rainbow—containing a bit of my pink while adding their own colors—and realizing that their happiness reflects the love and energy I give them."
Katha – Senior Brand Manager, EDURINO
" Two things that helped me get my pink back after having kids were seeing my friends and hearing my daughter say, "Mom, you're the best mom in the world."
Anna – Trade Marketing Manager, EDURINO
“ Two things helped me find myself again after the birth of my son : finally being able to drink my beloved coffee again after nine long months, and being able to go to the gym again – an hour just for me that really helps me clear my head.”
Brigid – Brand Ambassador for Great Britain, EDURINO
